Frequently Asked Questions
Choosing personal training or soft tissue therapy can feel like a significant step, particularly if you are returning to exercise, managing ongoing muscular discomfort or unsure which service is right for you. The answers below explain how each service works, what to expect and how to choose an appropriate starting point.
Is sports massage only for athletes?
No. You do not need to play sport to benefit from sports massage or soft tissue therapy. People seek support for muscular tension, restricted movement, exercise recovery and the physical effects of work or everyday activities.
Your initial consultation will help determine whether treatment is appropriate for you. Where your symptoms require medical assessment or fall outside my professional scope, I will recommend that you speak to your GP or another suitably qualified healthcare professional.
What is soft tissue therapy?
Soft tissue therapy uses a range of hands-on techniques to work with muscles and other soft tissues. Treatment is tailored to your needs and may be used to support movement, manage muscular tension and assist recovery from physical activity.
Depending on the assessment and your preferences, a session may include massage and other appropriate soft tissue techniques, together with practical aftercare or movement advice.
What is the difference between an initial appointment and a follow-up?
Your initial appointment includes time to discuss your health, symptoms, activities and goals. I will then carry out an appropriate assessment, explain what I find and agree the treatment approach with you before treatment begins.
Follow-up appointments review your progress and build on the initial session. The treatment plan can then be adapted according to how you are responding and what you want to achieve.
How long are appointments?
Soft tissue therapy appointments are available for 60 minutes. Your initial appointment may include additional consultation and assessment time.
Personal training sessions are 60 minutes, with the format tailored to your goals, experience and starting point.
What should I wear to a soft tissue therapy appointment?
Wear comfortable clothing that allows the relevant area to be assessed and moved. Depending on the area being treated, you may be asked whether you are comfortable removing some clothing. Towels will be used appropriately, and your privacy, comfort and consent will be respected throughout the appointment.
You can ask to pause, change or stop the assessment or treatment at any time.
What should I expect after a treatment?
Everyone responds differently to treatment. You may notice temporary tenderness or sensitivity in the treated area after your appointment. I will explain any relevant aftercare and may recommend suitable movement or self-management activities.
Treatment outcomes cannot be guaranteed, and more than one session may be recommended depending on your goals and response.
What does personal training include?
Personal training begins with a conversation about your current fitness, health, experience and goals. From there, we will create a realistic programme designed around your starting point.
Sessions may include:
- Strength and resistance training
- Mobility and movement work
- Cardiovascular exercise
- Exercise technique and progression
- Goal setting and accountability
- Support with building sustainable habits
The emphasis is on helping you become stronger, more capable and more confident, rather than relying on quick fixes.
Can beginners work with you?
Yes. You do not need to be fit, experienced or confident in a gym before you start.
Sessions are adapted to your current ability, and exercises are introduced at an appropriate pace. My aim is to provide a supportive environment in which you can learn, progress and build confidence without feeling judged.
Can I combine personal training with soft tissue therapy?
Yes, where appropriate. You might begin with soft tissue therapy to address muscular tension or movement restrictions, then add personal training to build strength, physical capacity and confidence.
You may also choose occasional treatment alongside your regular training and recovery programme. After an initial consultation, I can help you decide whether one service or a combination of both is an appropriate starting point. Soft tissue therapy does not replace medical assessment, diagnosis or rehabilitation provided by a regulated healthcare professional.
Where do sessions take place?
Soft tissue therapy appointments take place at my private clinic in Aston Clinton, Aylesbury (HP22 5AH).
Personal training sessions take place in the same location.
How much do sessions cost?
- Initial soft tissue therapy appointment: £35
- Follow-up soft tissue therapy appointment: £35
- Individual personal training session: £45
- Personal training package: 10% discount for a 5-session block, 20% discount for a 10-session block
- Combined treatment and training options: Combined sessions are £45
Any package terms, expiry dates or payment arrangements will be clearly explained before purchase.
How many sessions will I need?
This will depend on your starting point, goals, general health and response to treatment or training. Some people book a single soft tissue therapy appointment, while others benefit from a planned series of sessions.
Personal training is usually most effective when it forms part of a consistent programme. After your consultation, I will recommend an approach that reflects your goals and circumstances, without pressuring you to book unnecessary appointments.
What information will I need to provide?
Before starting, I will ask for information about your health, relevant medical history, current symptoms, medications and physical activity. This allows me to assess whether treatment or exercise is appropriate and to adapt the session safely.
Please do not send detailed or sensitive medical information through a general website enquiry form. This information can be collected through the appropriate client consultation process.
When should I speak to my GP or another healthcare professional?
Personal training and soft tissue therapy are not substitutes for medical diagnosis or treatment. You should seek appropriate medical advice if you have new, severe, unexplained or worsening symptoms, or if you are concerned about your health.
If something identified during your consultation falls outside my professional scope, I will explain this and recommend an appropriate next step. In an emergency, contact the emergency services rather than submitting a website enquiry.
Do I need medical clearance before starting?
Not everyone needs medical clearance. However, depending on your health history, current symptoms or recent surgery or injury, you may be advised to consult your GP or another suitably qualified healthcare professional before beginning treatment or exercise.
Please share relevant information during your consultation so that an appropriate decision can be made.
What is your cancellation policy?
If you need to rearrange or cancel an appointment, please provide at least 24 hours' notice.
Appointments cancelled with less notice may be charged, except where the agreed policy provides otherwise. Full terms will be shown during the booking process.
